Preparing for the fair

August 10, 2013
The Herald-Star
Many 4-H clubs help to prepare Friendship Park for the Jefferson County Fair, and the Barshoe Wranglers accomplished a needed service by building a mounting block to help people get on a horse at the riding arena near the horse barns. Members are, front, from left, Nikole Cooke, Emily Kennedy, Chesney Swickard, Gabriel Glenn, Kacey Kale, Kylee Haynes and Alexis Kosut; second row, Courtney Darling, Rachel Zimmer, Jacinta Roberts, Kirsten Turner, CJ Glenn, Azia Haynes and Tess Haynes; and third row, Kody Turner, Sammi Wilkins, Mary McGuire, Heaven Vojvodich, Marissa Lucci, Sarah Roberts, Lexi Haynes and Samantha Glenn. Donations were received from several local business for the 4-by-6-foot platform with the steps and railing made out of treated lumber. There is a backstop so a horse can’t sidestep away from the rider. The fair royalty will be crowned Monday evening, and the fair kicks off Tuesday at the fairgrounds. -- Contributed
