DODDS, William Lester, 89, of Toronto, OH, passed away Monday, August 5, 2013, in Weirton Hospital.
Bill was born June 24, 1924, in Richmond, OH, son of the late John L. and Mary Montgomery Dodds.
He was a proud World War II Navy veteran having served on the USS Irwin as the ship's signal man being a plankowner (the ship's original crew).
Bill was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After retiring, he became a licensed auctioneer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Toronto, OH, where he served on several church committees; he was also a member of the Toronto American Legion, and a 50-year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers having served as local president and a term as regional president for northeast Ohio. Bill was a former Island Creek Cemetery board member and former chairman of the Toronto Civil Service Commission.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Madeline Starr Dodds who passed away on January 29, 2013; one brother, Harry Dodds; two sisters Betty Holmes and Kathleen Teaff.
Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lester and Melanie Dodds of Carrollton, OH; two grandsons, Andrew (Holly) Dodds of Amsterdam and Aaron Dodds of Carrollton; one sister Marjorie Hill of Anaheim, CA.
Visitation will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the J.E. Foster Funeral Home in Toronto, Ohio where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Rinkes officiating. Burial will follow in Island Creek Cemetery in Toronto.
Full military graveside honors will be provided by the Toronto American Legion Post No. 86 and the Carrollton VFW.
