June 15, 2013
The Herald-Star
A sellout crowd helped kick off the Dean Martin Day Hometown Celebration Friday at Froehlich’s Classic Corner Restaurant. Bob Morelli, appearing as the music legend himself, kicked off a dinner show benefitting the Grand Theater Restoration Project that drew well over 250 people. David and Joey Granati and some 14 students from their Those Who Are About To Rock Academy in Ambridge also were slated to appear. The celebration continues today with a street fair at Historic Fort Steuben Park from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.; a Rat Pack concert at Steubenville High School starting at 2 p.m. and featuring a 13-piece orchestra plus Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis Jr. impersonators, with proceeds benefiting performing arts programs at local schools; tours of the Dean Martin Room at the Jefferson County Historical Museum on Franklin Ave. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and a variety of performances at the Spot Bar, beginning at noon with the Frank Gallo Italian Band; the Rat Pack show at 8 p.m.; Chris Denem performing Neil Diamond songs at 8:45 p.m. and again at 10:15 p.m; and Russ Loniello returning to the stage as Dean Martin at 9:15 p.m. Historic Fort Steuben also will be celebrating Local History Day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with reduced price tours. -- Linda Harris
