Heading to college

June 13, 2013
The Herald-Star
Steubenville Big Red graduate Pat Pizzoferrato, flanked by his parents Melody McClurg and Tom Schaffer Jr., will continue his academic and athletic careers at Wheeling Jesuit University, where he will major in physical therapy and be a member of the baseball team. Also on hand for the signing were grandfather Tom Schaffer Sr. and Big Red head baseball coach Fred Heatherington. Pizzoferrato, a four-year member of the Big Red baseball team, hit .400 this season with 34 hits, including 11 doubles, one triple and two home runs, for a team-leading 27 RBIs, and he scored 24 runs. “He was all about the team when he moved from playing infield to playing left field his junior and senior year,” said Heatherington. “He was not only a leader on the field, but in the classroom as well, with a 3.44 GPA and a 28 ACT score. We appreciate his leadership and effort as we wish him luck as he continues to play at Wheeling Jesuit and coach Terry Edwards.”
