Weirton man sentenced
WHEELING - A Weirton man already on supervised release for racketeering has been sentenced to five months in prison followed by two years of supervised release on a state domestic battery charge, U.S. Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld II reports.
The defendant, 25-year-old Josh Smith, had originally been sentenced in July 2008 to 60 months in prison and three years of supervised release for interstate travel in aid of racketeering.
U.S. Judge Frederick P. Stamp Jr. remanded Smith to the custody of U.S. marshals pending his assignment to a federal prison.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Randolph J. Bernard handled the revocation hearing.
County treasurer to mail tax bills
STEUBENVILLE - Jefferson County Treasurer Raymond M. Agresta said tax bills for the second half of 2012 are to be mailed on Thursday.
The last day for payment of this tax without penalty is July 10.
Persons not receiving a bill in the next several days should contact the county treasurer's office at (740) 283-8572.
Credit card payments are only accepted by telephone at 1-800-2PAY-TAX (1-800-272-9829) or online at www.officialpayments.com and use jurisdiction code 4577. Agresta said Official Payments, the service provider, charges a convenience fee for the service.
Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 398, Steubenville, OH 43952, or dropped in the drop-off box located on the alley side of the courthouse. Persons wanting a receipt must return the entire statement along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
Payments also can be made at the treasurer's office on the first floor of the courthouse or at the following banks: Huntington National Bank in Steubenville (Hollywood Branch), Bergholz, Richmond, Wintersville, Toronto and Tiltonsville; and Peoples National in Mount Pleasant.
