To the editor:
This letter is one which I never thought I would have to write. However, due to circumstances beyond my control, I feel compelled to express my thoughts to so many. May 7 was indeed a very dark day for me and my family. On that day, I was informed by my employer, Charity Hospice Inc., that I was being laid off. As director of volunteers and fundraising for nearly four years, I've had the opportunity to meet many wonderful individuals along with having heart-filled and memorable dealings with several local organizations.
As mentioned, I was notified by Charity Hospice's board of directors that, due to economic conditions within the company and a decrease in census, my services were not currently needed. Needless to say, I was somewhat surprised of their decision.
I am certainly not proud to be unemployed and it is indeed very hard to accept. However, the main reason of this letter is to thank so many individuals who have helped me in the past four years. As director of volunteers and fundraising, I have called upon so many of you to assist with my fundraising efforts and believe me, without you, I could not have been successful in my endeavors. I just believe it is my professional obligation to notify all of you who have become a business acquaintance of mine that, at this point in time, I am no longer employed at Charity Hospice. The friendships made in the past four years will never be forgotten. I wish to especially thank the many community volunteers, business and civic organizations, churches and media who have assisted me in any way. Your dedication, generosity and hard work also will never be forgotten. Where I go from here is not certain. I can only put my future in the hands of the good Lord. Until then, I again just want to thank everyone who has been a part of my Charity Hospice life for the past four years.
Hopefully, when I do have the opportunity to gain full employment, I again, will have that same opportunity to deal with such wonderful individuals such as you.
