STEUBENVILLE - A 1982 Catholic Central High School graduate will return to his alma mater to address the 58 graduates set to receive diplomas at commencement exercises Sunday afternoon.

Lt. Col. Dave Irvin attended the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., following high school. He graduated in 1986 with a bachelor of science degree in chemistry and was commissioned as an active duty second lieutenant in the Air Force. Irvin also was selected to attend the Air Force pilot training program.

During his career, Irvin was a T-37 instructor pilot and taught Air Force and allied pilots to perform low level navigation, aerobatics and formation flight maneuvers. He took part in missions re-deploying troops from the Middle East following Operation Desert Storm. Irvin also delivered tanks and armored equipment into Mogadishu, Somalia, in response to the events depicted in the movie, "Blackhawk Down" and flew humanitarian aid into war torn Rwanda.
