The Herald-Star

Officers were elected when the Mingo Lions Club held its April meeting at the Mingo Medical Group Office Building with President Jim Freiling presiding and Bill Snyder and Karen Edwards giving the opening and closing prayers, respectively.

Freiling will continue as president with other officers, including: first vice president, William Snyder; second vice president, Jeff Schuetz; third vice president, Jo Ann Johns; secretary, Clara Sue Milewsky; treasurer, Christine Barrett; tail twister, John Fabian; Lion tamer, Leroy Milewsky; two-year director, Bob Smith; one-year directors, Dr. William Johns and Terry Snyder; sight chairman, Johns; youth chairman, Karen Edwards; and membership chairman, Michele Fabbro.

The officers will be installed at the next meeting set for May 20 tentatively at the new Indian Creek school building.

For the program, Edwards shared souvenirs she acquired on her trip to the Domasi Presbytery in Malawi, Africa. Last fall, she was one of four Presbyterians chosen to visit the Malawi churches and to establish a partnership between the Chifumbe Church and the Cove Presbyterian Church in Weirton.

While there, she was impressed with the overcrowded conditions in the schools, classes often between 60 and 100 students with only one teacher. Students were well behaved because they wanted an education, she said.

Mingo Community Days will be held Aug. 9-10, it was announced. Schuetz will bring his trailer and be the chairman of the fundraiser.

George Houston was a guest.

Lion Leroy Milewsky is the caller.
