THOMPSON, Paul Jr., 90, Mt. Pleasant resident and Dillonvale, Ohio businessman, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at Autumn Healthcare, Adena, Ohio.
He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Mt. Pleasant, Ohio, son of the late Paul and Maude DeGarmo Thompson.
He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and served in WWII from 1943 to 1946 in the Pacific Theatre earning three bronze service stars.
Upon returning from the war, Paul joined Thompson & Sons, the family business in Dillonvale, and continued to work there with his son, Don, until shortly before his death. He is the last birthright member of the Friends Church. He followed his sons and nephews playing sports for many years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis. Surviving Paul is his wife of 65 years, Jean (Griffith) Thompson; sons: Donald (Rhoda) of Mt. Pleasant, Ohio and Ronald (Carolyn) of Rockwall, Texas; daughter, Bonnie (Ted) Riggle of New Concord, Ohio; six grandchildren: Ben, Chris, and Amanda Thompson, Stephanie Luff, Brad and Brent Riggle; step-grand children: Cathy Gerlach and Rose Reed; seven great grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; a sister Pauline Walter of Lubbock, TX and many beloved nephews and nieces.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life during calling hours Friday, May 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 154 Second Street, Dillonvale, Ohio. Viewing from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday May 11th at The Mt. Pleasant Friends Church with funeral service commencing at 11 a.m. with Pastor Scott Rose, officiating.
Interment following at Shortcreek Friends Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant, Ohio.
