Tree planting

April 27, 2013
The Herald-Star
Augustine Sirilla, 11, and Lizzy Taggart, 3, dig a hole Friday afternoon for a tree they’re planting on McDowell Avenue, part of a month-long project by the Hilltop Community Development Corp. to replace trees lost by storms, disease and power lines. The group is encouraging homeowners and landlords in LaBelle and Pleasant Heights to find a spot on their property to plant a shade tree or small ornamental flowering tree. Hilltop residents who’d like to obtain a free sapling, courtesy of a generous donation from the Steubenville Lions Club, should call (740) 282-4813. Saplings also will be available at Murphy Field and Piece of Pie Park on May 25 while supplies last. Before digging, call Ohio Utilities Protection Service. - Linda Harris
