AKC Gun Dog
BLOOMINGDALE - The American Kennel Club, the nation's largest dog registry, will bring the inaugural AKC Pointing Breed Walking Gun Dog Championship to Mingo Sportsman's Club near Bloomingdale April 27 through May 1.
The event will feature 60 of the country's top Gun Dogs. Seven different pointing breeds will be represented.
The venue at Mingo Sportsman's Club is fast becoming one of the top areas to display pointing dogs, thanks to the efforts of the members of the Mingo Club in managing the courses. Several national events have been held at this location in the past, as the area offers the opportunity to display the qualities that pointing breed owners value in their performance dogs.
"The AKC is pleased to have the opportunity to bring the inaugural AKC Pointing Breed Walking National Championship to Mingo Sportsman's Club," said Tom Maneely, AKC executive field representative.
"The AKC has a 20-year history of hosting a National Championship for dogs where the person handling the dog is mounted on horseback. With this event we want to identify and reward the superior hunting dogs where the dog is handled from foot. I am looking forward to seeing many of the nation's finest bird dogs in competition," Maneely said.
