To the editor:
The social work faculty at the Franciscan University of Steubenville relies on the time and expertise of professional social workers in the community to assist us in preparing future social workers. Agreeing to supervise a student intern requires great sacrifice in terms of time, and with no financial compensation provided, the only reward is knowing the contribution one has made to the student's education and training.
During March, professional social work month in Jefferson County and across the country, we would like to thank all of the social workers who have generously given of their time and talents to serve as field supervisors for our students. In addition, we want to thank other staff members and administrators in the community who have aided students in various ways in their professional preparation.
We encourage you to thank the social workers that you know. They serve the incarcerated, the sick, the poor, victims of domestic violence, the mentally and physically disabled, and so many other individuals and families. They are invaluable to our communities and we salute their efforts.
