Twenty-five Steubenville High School students got their shot at experiencing New York City theater in February as they prepared for their upcoming spring theatrical production.
The students, all members of the International Thespian Society, attended three Broadway musicals while immersing themselves in the daily life of the Big Apple.
The students also got to experience standing on the stage of the Radio City Music Hall and other city landmarks such as the 9/11 memorial and the Statue of Liberty.
Scott Wolodkin, thespian advisor and director for the upcoming production, traveled with the students as some experienced New York for the first time.
One student, Dominic DiCarlo, wore a Big Red horse's head and appeared on the "Today Show" with Al Roker. Other students also were on the "Today Show," some with an "I Love Steubenville" sign.
The thespian society at the high school consists of students in grade 10-12 who have been active participants in the high school drama club.
DiCarlo, a junior thespian and lead for the March production, said, "New York theater provided me with a true understanding of the process and diligence needed for a role such as mine, especially with the high demand of dancing within our spring show."
Marissa McAllister, senior thespian and drama club officer, said, "The dancing in 'Chicago' and 'Nice Work if You Can Get It' provided us with a better understanding of how you can tell a story with movement and no speaking."
Ryan Ledakis, senior thespian president, said, "New York was a great experience. The opportunity to view diverse forms of character acting has greatly helped me in the preparation for our school production."
This year's production is slated for March 21-23 at 7:30 p.m. and March 24 at 3 p.m. in the SHS auditorium.
Tickets can be purchased from the box office high school commons beginning today as well as Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and March 18-22 during the same times. All tickets are $ 10 with reservations are required.
