Brooke wins second straight

WELLSBURG - Standout sophomore Angela Staffileno finished with a game-high 33 points, including hitting 17 free throws, to lead the Brooke girls basketball team to its second win in a row, a 60-49 decision over Oak Glen at the Brooke Wellness Center Monday evening.

The Bruins took a 16-9 lead after eight minutes and lengthened it to 42-30 after three periods. Michaela Hinerman added 15 points for the winners.

Jessica Stivason totaled 14 points and Karly Wiley 10 for the Golden Bears.

Huskies buck Colts

CADIZ - Harrison Central's Katie Ellzy and Meadowbrook's Marissa Goodright went toe-to-toe all night long and, although Goodright won the individual battle, the Huskies came away with a 58-54 victory at home Monday night.

Goodright finished with a game-high 32 points, including 16 for 18 from the free throw line.

Ellzy totaled 30 points for the Huskies. Kara Dunfee chipped in with 18, including hitting all dozen charity tosses.

Harrison Central takes on Sandy Valley at Dover High School Wednesday in the Division III sectional tournament.

Rocks stop Crusaders

BARNESVILLE - The Barnesville girls basketball team used a huge fourth quarter to defeat visiting Steubenville Catholic Central 43-37 Monday.

The host Shamrocks outscored the Crusaders 18-3 in the final eight minutes to overcome a 34-25 deficit.

Tori Knight paced Central with 14 points.

The Crusaders take on Martins Ferry in sectional play at 4 p.m. Saturday in Cambridge.
