STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Community Action Council Head Start program is now accepting applications for enrollment.
According to Head Start Director Juanita Thorn, "The Head Start program provides full day classes for low- and moderate-income eligible children and families. Children and families will have the experience to receive services in early literacy, phonics, math, science, social and emotional activities as well as health."
"Hearing, vision, language and speech development screenings are provided for the children. And we have parent, family and community engagement as part of our program. This enables a parent to have an active part in the development of their child's educational journey through Head Start and be prepared to transition into the public school system," said Thorn.
Thorn said a male involvement committee is a group of fathers, grandfathers, uncles or just friends promoting positive role models who do educational activities with children.
"Head Start offers classes with accredited teachers along with transportation to and from our centers. We have Head Start centers in Adena, Wintersville, Tiltonsville and Steubenville. There is no charge to attend Head Start. More information about our program is available by calling the Community Action Council offices in Steubenville at (740) 282-0971, extension 151," explained Thorn.
Parents can also call the Head Start centers.
