McGROGAN, James, 81, of Weirton, WV, died peacefully, Sunday, January 20, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born December 6, 1931, in Pittsburgh, Pa, son of the late James F. and Catherine (Smith) McGrogan.
Jim was of the Catholic faith. He attended Catholic Central and Weir High Schools. He served in the United States Navy on the ship U.S.S. Salem, during the Korean War at the age of 17, where he enjoyed boxing and won the light weight championship of his fleet. Jim had a great love for music, art, physical fitness, gardening, friends, and family. He retired from Weirton Steel after 30 years of service.
He is proceeded in death by his parents, his wife of 44 years, Betty Lou (Jones) McGrogan, and his nephew, Joseph W. McGrogan.
Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Joseph W. and Liz McGrogan, one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen L. and Charles Ashbee, one son, James P. McGrogan, four grandchildren: Kari Ashbee, Shane (Jen) McGrogan, Lindsey (Rick) Nagy, Mickey (Megan) McGrogan, six great-grandchildren: Deben, Karli, Katie, Charlie, Nathan, and Riley.
Surviving, also, are one niece, Paula McGrogan, two great-nieces, Amber and Rachel McGrogan, and a special friend, Sucha.
There will be no visitation, at the request of the deceased. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
