Arrest warrant issued in stabbing
STEUBENVILLE - A felonious assault charge has been filed against a woman City Police believe stabbed her ex-boyfriend in the shoulder Sunday evening.
Police were called to the 1500 block of Euclid Avenue around 10 p.m. about a man stabbed in the shoulder. The man said he was at his ex-girlfriend's house on Kendall Avenue when the two began to argue. The man said the female threw a punch at his face and then he thought she just punched him in the shoulder, police reported.
The man left and felt a wetness on his shirt while he was driving away and discovered the knife was still in his shoulder and he was bleeding, police reported. The man told officers he pulled out the knife and took it to the Euclid Avenue house, police reported. Officers said they searched the home but couldn't locate the knife.
The man was taken to Trinity Medical Center West for treatment, police reported.
Kitchen fire causes minor damage
STEUBENVILLE - A cooking fire in the kitchen of an apartment at 720 N. Seventh St. was quickly extinguished early today and caused minor damage, the City Fire Department reported.
Firefighters were called around 3:06 a.m. today to the third-floor apartment. Another resident on the floor used a fire extinguisher to knock down the flames to prevent it from getting worse, the fire department reported.
The building was ventilated to remove smoke and odors, the fire department reported.
Most of the building's residents had evacuated to the first floor hallway because of the fire alarm sounding, the fire department reported.
Road work announced
The West Virginia Division of Highways has announced minor road work to be performed this week, pending suitable weather.
Crews in Hancock County will patch Crescent Lane, Pleasant Hills and Virden Heights roads and Huffs Lane and ditch along state Route 2.
Crews in Brooke County will patch Tent Church/Grisby Road and work on minor drainage structures along Hiddenwood Lane.
Free dinner at Jewett UMC
JEWETT - Jewett United Methodist Church located at 202 W. Main St. and Rumley will be the site of a free dinner from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The menu will include pork, sauerkraut, baked potato, dessert and beverage.
The dinner is part of the church's Olive Branch Program.
Scrabble session set for Wednesday
STEUBENVILLE - Area Scrabble enthusiasts will gather Wednesday for their monthly game session in room 1504 at Eastern Gateway Community College.
Play time will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., with newcomers welcome and encouraged to bring the board game if they have one. No fees are charged.
Bonus words will be words related to Abraham Lincoln's birthday.
