Lady Barons win
HAMBURG, NY - The Franciscan University of Steubenville women's basketball team cruised to a 60-40 victory against host Hilbert College Saturday.
"We came out and played so strong," head coach Suzy Delaney said. "We led with our defense and had total confidence in our offensive game plan."
The Hawks shot 30 percent from the floor and committed 28 turnovers.
"We had so much more composure offensively," Delaney said. "We made some key shots from the three point line and never let up. We kept our foot on the gas. Everybody today played their hearts out regardless if they made a splash on the stats sheet."
FUS Sophomore forward Lacey Huck finished with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals. Fellow sophomore Helen Reins added 11 points and freshman Lauren Noce six rebounds.
"We just played so confidently today, it was really tough to stop us," Delaney said. "Everyone was just so tough for us. I was really proud of our girls."
The Lady Barons host Pitt-Greensburg at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Barons men lose
HAMBURG, NY - The Franciscan University of Steubenville men's basketball team dropped a 63-44 decision at Hilbert College Saturday.
"We played incredibly tough against a good team for 36-and-a-half minutes," head coach John Lamanna said. "It was hard near the end when we just bottomed out.
"We played this team extremely well. It just comes to our youth. We don't have the experience yet to put them away when we had the chance. We need to learn and grow from this. We just needed to fix our inconsistencies and this would have been a different outcome."
Besides impressive team stats for the majority of the game, the Barons took a lot of positives from individual players like sophomore forward Joseph Rine and freshman guard Daniel Klienschnitz.
Joe Rine led FUS with 20 points, 14 rebounds and five blocked shots.
"Joe really responded well from his last game," Lamanna said. "He was incredibly productive. He was so aggressive. It was great to see."
Freshman Daniel Klienschnitz added 12 points.
The Barons welcome Pitt-Greensburg at 8 p.m. Wednesday.
