BANDA, Nick, 83, of Weirton, WV, passed away Friday, January 11, 2013, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born December 6, 1929, in Johnstown, PA. He was the son of the late Milan and Mildred Bastaja Banda.
He was also preceded in death by sisters, Betty LePlante and Helen "Flip" Ralsten; brother, Mitchell Banda.
Nick was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, Steubenville, OH, a United States Navy veteran, a member of New Cumberland Lodge No. 22 A.F. & A.M., Scottish Rite of Wheeling, Wheeling Consistory, 25-year club of Weirton Steel, and the 25-year Management Club of Weirton Steel.
Nick retired from the Steel Works Department of Weirton Steel as a mechanical superintendent of the BOP caster and the blooming mill. Nick actively participated with the lives of his children and grandchildren, attending any functions or sporting events that they were involved in.
Surviving are his wife of 60 plus years, June Marie Durbin Banda; daughters, Nikki DeLong(Steve) of New Cumberland, WV, Michele Ramsey (Bryan) of Wheeling, WV; son, Mark Banda (Jennifer) of Canonsburg, PA; grandchildren, Ashlee Potts (Cody) and Steven DeLong, Erin, Nicholas, and Christian Banda, Taylor and Loryn Ramsey; great-grandson, Liam Potts; sisters, Florence Rakich (Duke) of Steubenville, OH, Dorothy Byers (Jim) of Weirton, WV; brother, Doug Banda (Lorena) of Louisville, KY.
Visitation will be at the Steel & Wolfe Funeral Home, Inc., 380 Penco Road, Weirton, WV, on Monday January 14, 2013, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. where the funeral will be held Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. Very Reverend Joseph Jugan will preside.
Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
