Edison places seventh
NELSONVILLE - The Edison wrestling team finished seventh at the Nelsonville-York Tournament Saturday with 171 points.
The Wildcats had a pair of second-place finishers in Robert Daley (113) and Mitchell Wells (182). Nick Fisher (132) and Blaine Cline (170) picked up fourth-place finishes. Chris Leake finished fifth at 152, Brandon O'Brien seventh at 138, and Layne Weaver eighth at 120.
Gallia Academy won the event with 248 points. St. Clairsville was fourth at 206.
Wells dropped a 4-1 decision to Gallia's Mark Allen, while Daley was pinned by River Valley's Raymond Raimo.
Fisher lost 9-7 in overtime to Jacob Eye from Jonathan Alder and Cline a tough 2-1 call to Gallia's Justin Reynolds.
Leake defeated Alder's Dylan Wildman, 4-3, and O'Brien pinned Briggs' Usman Oyelami in 41 seconds.
Weaver was pinned by Southeastern's Allen Shope.
Spartans beat Irish
WHEELING - The St. Joseph Spartans J.V. boys basketball team defeated Bellaire St. John Junior Irish 22-16 in Wheeling Parochial League play.
The Spartans were led by Dom Mazur's eight points with Evan Bonto adding six and Robbie Valenti contributing four.
