STEUBENVILLE - Two separate kitchen fires were extinguished Thursday afternoon by city fire crews, according to reports.
Firefighters were called to the Fort Steuben Apartments, Apartment 702, 180 N. Fourth St., at about 5:30 p.m., where they discovered a fire in the kitchen area. The blaze at was quickly extinguished before crews were called at 5:49 p.m. to the scene of another kitchen fire at 733 Rosswell.
Both structures sustained smoke and water damage, and no injuries were reported. The Jefferson County Chapter of the American Red Cross was called to assist families displaced by the fires, according to reports.
Harrison County judge
CADIZ - Harrison County Common Pleas Judge Michael Nunner has announced his retirement, effective Monday.
Nunner first was elected to the common pleas court in November 2002 and is serving his second term.
The judge has served the public for more than 34 years. He served in the office of Attorney General William J. Brown from 1977-80, and served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in Harrison County from 1981-92.
Nunner, in his resignation letter to Gov. John Kasich, expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve Harrison County citizens and the professionalism of numerous people with whom he has served, the letter reads.
Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor will appoint retired judges to oversee cases in Harrison County until a replacement judge is selected by Kasich.
