STEUBENVILLE - The city's fair housing practices commission will observe Fair Housing Month in April with seminars at Steubenville High School, Catholic Central High School and Franciscan University of Steubenville.
Urban Projects Director Chris Petrossi said Carl White of the Regional Housing Center will lead the seminars.
"You may also want to schedule a training session for commission members on what's new in fair housing regarding military status, sexual orientation and gender identity," said Petrossi.
The commission members also met as the board of directors for the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center and set a fair housing seminar scheduled in April in Adena, Rayland, Richmond and Smithfield to review handicap and disability issues.
"We are also planning a fair housing seminar in April to discuss landlord and tenant issues," added Petrossi.
"And we are planning a day-long seminar on the Americans with Disabilities Act for contractors in April. The last ADA training session for contractors we offered was a four-hour course, but many of the contractors wanted more information so we will expand this one to an eight-hour course," Petrossi explained.
White said he also would like to do a training aimed at the Ohio Valley Fair Housing Center board members and help them start writing their policies and procedures.
"I would like to see that training as soon as we can. It would be good to have that training before we offer the seminars in April," said board Chairman John Barnes.
"I will schedule something in February, weather permitting," responded White.
White also said he will be offering a seminar for Jefferson Metropolitan Housing Authority residents in June.
