Financial report can be viewed

The Toronto City School District financial statements are available for public view. Copies can be obtained by contacting Cheryl Vukelic, treasurer, at Toronto City Schools, 1307 Dennis Way, Toronto, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

Fire department releases report

The Toronto Fire Department had a total of eight calls for the month of November with an average manpower turnout of eight members. The calls included two building fires; one cooking fire; one brush fire; one carbon monoxide incident; one lockout; one odor investigation; and one animal rescue.

The department had several members participate in live burn training on Nov. 10. Several members of the department also participated in a training session held at the station on Nov. 16.

Members of the department also provided fire protection and security for the fireworks presented on light-up night.

Activities at First Presbyterian

Sunday - Worship service begins at 11 a.m. The children's Christmas play will be presented during the service. A fellowship time and visit with St. Nick will follow.

Tuesday - The church council meeting will be at 6 p.m. in the north conference room.

Wednesday - Chancel choir practice is set for 7 p.m.

Activities at Riverview UM church

Upcoming activities at Riverview United Methodist Church include:

Events set at North River Avenue

Sunday - The worship service begins at 9:45 a.m. At 10:45 a.m., the junior church worship service meets in the junior area downstairs. The service is for ages 5 to fourth grade. Sunday school begins at 11 a.m. The youth group meets at 6 p.m. The evening meditation service begins at 7 p.m.

Monday -The Boy Scouts will meet at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday - Bible study will begin at 7 p.m. in the overflow room opposite the sanctuary. Adult choir rehearsal will follow at 8:15 p.m.

Dec. 24 - The Christmas cantata, presented by the choir, will be at 7 p.m. The theme will be "Child of Hope."

First UM Church plans activities

Dec. 21 - Take Off Pounds Sensibly meets at 9 a.m.

Dec. 23 - Sunday school will begin at 9:30 a.m.; the rise and shine contemporary service will begin at 8:30 a.m.; and the worship service begins at 10 :45 a.m. There will be a Christmas program during worship featuring the Ringing Angels.

Dec. 24 - The Christmas Eve cantata begins at 10:45 p.m.

Events at Toronto Bible Methodist

Sunday - Morning Sunday school, 10 a.m.; service, 11 a.m.; evening service, 6 p.m.; weekly Bible study, 5:30 p.m.

Salvation Army Toronto Unit prescription assistance program

Those between ages 18-64 who have no prescription drug insurance can call (740) 537-2210 for assistance. A team of volunteers will help clients apply for low-cost or no-cost medications. The free program has been providing assistance since 2002 at the Riverview United Methodist Church, 105 N. River Ave. Assistance is provided on the first Thursday of each month from 10 a.m. to noon. The entrance to the church is handicap accessible.

Those age 65 or older and who have no prescription insurance are eligible for the program.

This is not a distribution center for medications, but a volunteer-based program that assists in filling out paperwork and sending in necessary applications to drug manufacturers. Once approved, clients begin receiving medications directly from companies in six to eight weeks.
