Buckeye Ruritans of New Alexandria get service award

The Herald-Star

The Ohio State Grange awarded the Buckeye Ruritans 1471 of New Alexandria with a "Best in Ohio Community Service Award."

Involved in the presentation were Gary Brumbaugh, Ohio State Grange president; Dorothy Eckert, state Grange community service director; and Don Roe of the Buckeye Ruritans, who represented the New Alexandria group.

They were nominated by the Liberty Grange 1749 of New Alexandria and placed first in the state for services performed for the community and surrounding area. Some of the activities included providing a park with a ball field, basketball court, slides and children's rides, as well as a shelter house and keeping it in good repair. Cleaning the old portion of the village cemetery, repairing sidewalks and sponsoring a Halloween and Christmas party for the children in the New Alexandria area also were some of the events.
