HAMMONDSVILLE - The sale of district properties was discussed during Tuesday's Edison Local school board meeting.
Two structures not being used by the district were approved for sale by the board during the meeting, according to Bill Beattie, district superintendent.
"We approved the sale of the (former) Springfield Middle School building," said Beattie, adding the structure in Bergholz was sold at auction for $82,000 to Todd Yohman. "It was auctioned off last Wednesday.
"It was an older building, and it hasn't been used for more than a year," Beattie continued. "There was no (district) use for that building."
The board also approved the sale of the Irondale bus garage to the village of Irondale for $350, Beattie said.
"A few years back we sold the former Irondale Elementary School building to (the village of) Irondale," he said. "At the time, we were still using the garage, so we kept it. We're no longer using it, so we sold it to (the village)."
Beattie said the district elected to keep mineral rights at both properties as conditions of the sale.
"We are retaining all mineral rights to all the land we sold," said Beattie, adding the district has the right to exploit any gas or shale drilling at both sites."That's the big thing here in Jefferson County right now, so we didn't want to lose (drilling) rights. I think that's important for people to know."
Also, the board tabled any action on the district's budget recovery plan until the next meeting.
The board's reorganizational meeting is schedule for 6 p.m. on Jan. 8, with the regular meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. that day at the Stanton board office.
