BRILLIANT - The Wells Township trustees recently approved a motion to pay $42,277.70 to DFG Excavating for repairing damages on Salt Run Road.
The damages were caused by coal equipment, and trustees will bill the coal company. Prior to approving the payment, a motion was approved to appropriate that amount to a road and bridge contract line item.
In other matters, those involved with the Haunted House will purchase a sound system requested for the senior center as a community service project and as a thank-you to the community, according to Police Capt. Sean Norman.
Norman thanked everyone for making the Haunted House a success this year. He reported 160 volunteers, including 120 teenagers, worked at the Haunted House this year.
Trustee Joe Ellis reported an employee of the Jefferson County Engineer's Office said county Road 19 ends below Porter's Road. Also it was noted that Washington Road is signed incorrectly according to county maps, and township Road 619 is farther up the road and is unused and needs to be placed on a non-maintained status or vacated and then the designation could be moved to Washington Road.
In other business:
A resident thanked the road crew for repairing township Road 503.
A resident reported grass has not been cut all year at a Fifth Street property. The resident requested something be done about the matter.
Assistance regarding an alley behind a Labelle Street property was requested by another resident, who said neighbors are parking in such a manner that he cannot maneuver his truck into his garage. Trustee John Cook indicated he would talk to the neighbor's landlord again.
Trustee Larry Owens mentioned a Tiddale property now is vacant, and the bank holding the property will attempt to correct problems there.
A blood drive is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. on Dec. 21 at the firehouse. Help will be provided by the fire department, senior citizens' group and Lions Club.
As requested by Fiscal Officer Joseph Matthews, trustees changed the time for the Dec. 20 meeting to 9 a.m. at the t ownship office, 409 Prospect St.
