ALLIANCE - The Steubenville Big Red wrestling team turned out a dominant performance in winning the Marlington Dual Tournament.
Big Red pitched a pair of shutouts - 79-0 over Akron Hoban and 81-0 over Canton Timken - to start the tournament off Friday. It closed out Friday's action with a 74-12 win over Canton Glen Oak.
Saturday began with a 63-9 win over Wadsworth and a 63-13 win over Akron Coventry to close out the bracket round with Big Red standing at 5-0.
In the quarterfinals Canal Fulton Northwest was dispatched of by a 71-4 score and Big Red advanced to the finals with a 47-12 semifinal win over Green.
The host school, Marlington, fared the best of any team in the tournament, but was still no match for Big Red. Steubenville claimed a 47-22 win and the Marlington Dual Tournament crown.
Highlights for Big Red over the weekend were a win for freshman Tariq Wilson over a Green wrestler ranked No. 11 in Division I at 113 pounds, Greg Moray picking up his 100th career victory, and head coach Mike Blackburn garnering his 100th dual match win as a coach.
