Edison in Ohio helps Edison in N.J.

Seventh- and eighth-graders at Edison High School in Richmond have helped their peers dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey, ironically at a school bearing the same name as theirs.

An Edison High School in New Jersey, a state struggling with loss of power, homes, cars and food, received a check for $570 from the Edison students in Richmond as part of the local effort to help the hurricane-impacted students.

More than 160 students contributed money to have a period off to watch a film, collecting $538.25. Additional donations from staff and students brought the final total to $570.

In a phone conversation with the principal of the Edison Eagles it was learned that the major need was for food, according to Deborah M. Hendricks, seventh- and eighth-grade science teacher at Richmond's Edison. "With no electricity, food in refrigerators and freezers have spoiled. Our contributions will be sent directly to the school where their student council will deliver the funds to their local CARE organization," she wrote in providing information about the project.
