Need alteration surgery for your cat, but can't afford the cost?
Hounds' Haven Animal Shelter is offering a weekly low-cost spay/neuter clinic for cats only.
The offer is limited to households in need, or for any household caring for stray cats in their area. Cat spays are $25 and cat neuters are $10.
Participants must schedule an appointment and pre-pay. Call the shelter at (740) 733-8546 and leave a message.
Hounds' Haven is a private, nonprofit, "quality-of-life" shelter for homeless pets from around the Ohio Valley. The shelter provides quality care for life to hundreds of animals each day.
The shelter also operates a comprehensive pet adoption program, public education and low-cost pet medical services, especially spay-neuter clinics, to address the problem of animal overpopulation in the Ohio Valley, a spokesperson said.
The Nifty Needles Neighborhood Group of the American Sewing Guild Pittsburgh Chapter held its November meeting at the First Christian Churchin Weirton.
Leader Carol Village welcomed the nine members in attendance. She reminded members to make their reservations for the guild Christmas Tea by Nov. 26. The tea will be held Dec. 1 at the Edgeware Country Club in Pittsburgh.
The Weirton-Wintersville groups will hold a joint Christmas party at 6:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Mill Creek Inn, near Reed's Mill. Members made reservations at the meeting.
During show-and-tell, Kay Nixon displayed a mug mat, trimmed sweater with hair-pin lace fleece; Nancy Linn, mug mat and fall quilted placemats; Dolly Grossman, iron caddy, casserole cover and quilted table runner; JoAnne Gorrell, mug mat; and Village, mug mat.
Susan Maze was awarded the door prize.
Grossman presented a program on braided rag rugs.
Members were shown how to prepare fabric strips and what types of fabric to use.
Each member was given a tool and fabric strips so they could begin a project, and Grossman demonstrated weaving the strips.
The next meeting will be held Jan. 1 at the church.
Nancy Sanders will be leader in 2013, and she has asked members to volunteer to present programs.
