PORTER, James "Gene", Sr., 70, of New Cumberland, passed away, Monday, November 19, 2012.

He was born January 9, 1942, in New Cumberland, W.Va, a son of the late Lawrence and Stella (Fisher) Porter.

Gene was a member of the New Cumberland Church of the Nazarene, belonged to New Cumberland Masonic Lodge 22, the Hancock Chapter 14 RAM, Weirton Commandery No. 30, Knights Templar.

He retired after working thirty three years from Weirton Steel Corporation as plant protection supervisor.

He last worked for the Hancock County School System and he formerly worked for Turley Ambulance as an EMT. Gene also served on the New Cumberland City Council.

He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Alexander Douglass Porter, three brothers; Bill, Charlie and Carl; six sisters, Evelyn, Lucille, Ruth, Thelma, Martha and Edith.

Gene will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 51 years, Janet (Jacobs) Porter at home; four sons, Gene (Denita) Porter Jr of Kentucky, Mitch (Amy) Porter of Chester, David (Joan) Porter of Erie, Pa and Jason (Maggie) Porter of Columbus ; ten grandchildren, Kristen (Jake) Mosley, Trent Porter, Josh (Keshia) Porter, Dean Porter, Ryan Porter, Bethany Porter, Gabe Porter, Nicole Smith, Tasha Smith , Aaron Smith; three great- grandchildren, Colten Myers, Alyssa Henry, Alexander Jones and by a sister, Betty Lou Rossi of New Cumberland.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Nixon Funeral Home in New Cumberland, with funeral services at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the New Cumberland Church of the Nazarene Pastor Craig Greathouse will officiate.

Burial will follow at New Cumberland Cemetery.
