Probation ordered in drug case
STEUBENVILLE - David R. Carpenter, 47, of 807 Rinker Road was placed on two years of probation Wednesday by Jefferson County Common Pleas Judge David Henderson after Carpenter pleaded guilty to possession of crack cocaine.
Carpenter was arrested on May 2 on state Route 7 in the city.
Henderson also ordered a $150 fine. Carpenter faces up to 12 months in prison if he violates probation.
Veterans Day program planned Sunday
SMITHFIELD - A Veterans Day program will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Fort Friendship at Friendship Park.
Charles Strizak, past District 10 commander, will be the master of ceremonies, and music will be provided by Ron Retzer.
The guest speaker will be Army veteran Bryan Felmet.
A light lunch will be served in the fair 4-H building after the program.
Wounded Warrior donations sought
Members of the Eastern Ohio Concerned Citizens, the American Patriot council WJH Chapter and Steubenville For Liberty will collect donations for the Wounded Warrior Project from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.
Collections will take place at Eastern Gateway Community College in Steubenville and at the corner of Penco Road and Pennsylvania Avenue in Weirton.
Harrison hospital holiday breakfast set
CADIZ - The 21st-annual Christmas Leadership Breakfast will be held at 7:30 a.m. on Dec. 7 at Harrison Community Hospital in the hospital cafeteria.
There is $5 donation per person, and proceeds will be used to purchase Christmas gifts for the Harrison County children.
