The Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club recently held its annual competition at Two Ridges Presbyterian Church hall in Wintersville.
There were 15 categories in prints with 553 pictures entered and six categories in slides with 65 total slides entered.
The Best of Show in prints was awarded to Melissa Bendle of Amsterdam with her picture of a Victoria Crowned Pigeon, "Seeing Red," taken at the Pittsburgh Aviary. Best of Show in slides was awarded to Ruth Bovalina of Burgettstown, Pa., with her close-up picture of a purple flower, "Purple Beauty," taken at a workshop in Aliquippa, Pa.
The Best of Show winning print and slide are chosen from among all the first-place winning pictures in the various categories.
The judges for the competition were Kylene Sisk of Newbrough's Studio in Weirton; James Metcalf, Eastern Gateway College photography instructor; and Breanne Wilkerson, Weir Middle School art teacher.
Some of the topics for the print competition were scenics, sunrise/sunset, children candid, pets, people formal, sports, humorous and architecture. The winners included Diane Bannister with one second-place award, and two third-place awards; Bendle, two first-place, three second-place and one third-place award; Ernest D'Andrea, one second-place award; Chris Horvath, one third-place award; Barb Momyer, three first-place and two second-place awards; Claudia Norris, two second-place awards; Dave Rees, one first-place and one second-place award; and Sam Rees, one second- and one third-place award.
Other club members who won awards included Don Roberts with one second-place and one third-place award; Steve Roberts, one third-place award; Leanne Sinicropi, four first-place and one third-place award; Debra Snider, one second-place award; Andy Tindor, two first-place, one second-place and three third-place awards; Karen Tindor, one first-place award; and Anissa Wellington, two first-place, three second-place and two third-place awards.
The topics for the slide competition were people, sunrise/sunset, nature, special effects, close up and pictorial - open. The winners included Bovalina with four first-place awards, four second-place awards and three third-place awards; Jim Malloy, one third-place award; Norris, one first-place, two second-place and one third-place award; Dave Rees, one first-place award; and Steve Whiting, one third-place award.
Camera Club members were presented ribbons for their winning pictures, and all the award-winning pictures were displayed recently at the Fort Steuben Mall for the annual exhibit. All the winning pictures can be found on Facebook at the Upper Ohio Valley Camera Club page.
