AEP Ohio pays customers to save

To the editor:

If you're an AEP Ohio customer and own an old, working refrigerator or freezer that you'd like to recycle, you can do so and earn some extra money at the same time. All you have to do is get rid of it.

This shortcut to savings is as easy as it sounds. Consumers participating in the AEP Ohio Appliance Recycling Program will have their old appliance picked up for free, and we'll recycle each and every possible part of it. Just call (877) 545-4112 or visit to schedule your working fridge or freezer for pickup, and you'll receive a $50 rebate check in return.

Not only that, the amount of energy consumers save by not keeping an old refrigerator or freezer running can amount to as much as $150 a year. The reason is simple. The machinery in older refrigerators and freezers is so outdated, and so inefficient, that the cost of keeping them running can be as much, or more, than the value of the few beverages and leftovers kept inside them.

If you can do without that old fridge or freezer that's driving up your energy bill, just give us a call or visit our website and schedule your free pickup. We'll literally pay you money to save money.

The appliance recycling program is part of AEP Ohio's overall energy efficiency and peak demand response efforts to meet the Ohio target of reducing electricity consumption 22 percent by the end of 2025. Program funding is limited and participation is on a first-come, first-served basis. So, why not join the thousands of other AEP Ohio customers who have already recycled their old fridge or freezer? You'll stop wasting energy plus start saving money and the environment right away.
