To the editor:
Just a reminder - the 33rd-annual Ray Laman Children's Christmas Party will be held at the Wintersville Fire and Rescue garage from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 15. Children must be accompanied by an adult. They will be entertained with a sing-a-long with Kenny Wells, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, elves and Mrs. Claus before the arrival of Santa. After the party, Santa and his helpers will visit the pediatrics ward at Trinity Medical Center West for the sick children who are unable to attend the party.
This is the largest event of its kind in the area, hosting more than 350 children annually. We are a nonprofit organization funded solely through donations of area merchants and caring citizens. As the attendance grows each year, our donations remain about the same. This is a community event for all children under the age of 10, and they come from all over, not just Wintersville. Without more donations, this is getting harder to do. We urge everyone reading this to open their hearts and wallets for the area children. Without your generosity, this event cannot be made possible. We don't want to cut back on the size, quantity or quality of the gifts. As the annual cost keeps rising, we need donations.
Donations and comments can be sent to the Ray Laman Children's Fund, 60 Pioneer Drive, Wintersville, Ohio 43853; by calling me at (740) 264-2161; or by contacting the Wintersville Police Department at 200 Grove St.
Donations must be received by Dec. 12 to make the program. May this year's event make the holidays happier for a lot of area children.
