CHESTER - Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort donated more than $2,600 worth of sand to the Belmont County Fairgrounds and the 4-H club that will be used in the construction of a new horse arena.
Mountaineer's donation of 400 tons of track material will not only provide for a smoother and safer arena but also assist in the capability of the arena to hold outside events, generating more revenue for the site.
"Mountaineer is thrilled to have the opportunity to help out a local organization, as well as to promote the safety of horses," said Rosemary Williams, director of racing at Mountaineer.
MOUNTAINEER DONATES — Through donations of materials and services from Mountaineer Casino, Racetrack and Resort and Bugala Trucking Inc., the Belmont County Fairgrounds soon will have an updated horse arena.
"This new horse arena will provide great things to the citizens of Belmont County as well as those in the area, and we are so proud to be able to be a part of it," she said.
The Belmont County Fair was moved to the St. Clairsville location in 2010, and several new buildings have modernized the fairgrounds, but funding wasn't available to update the horse arena. As a result, the arena lacked proper drainage and footing.
"This materials donation will be the keystone to the renovation of the horse arena at the Belmont County Fairgrounds," said David Kuckuck, a 4-H parent volunteer. "Corporate partnerships such as this benefit the community, and in this case, 4-H members and their families. We are still looking for more interested parties to donate to the Belmont County Fairgrounds and this great cause."
