CADIZ - This year is the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Missile Crisis and Ray Ferrell will be speaking at the Puskarich Public Library about that subject.
Ferrell will speak at 6 p.m. on Nov. 8, talking about his military life while stationed on a Nike Missile Base in defense of South Florida during the Cold War in 1968.
Ferrell recently visited the area where he was stationed and will be speaking for a special Veteran's Day program.
For information on the program, call (740) 942-2623.
The library also will host national speaker and author Patrick Hartory at 6 p.m. Nov. 14.
He will present a brain health program designed to provide attendees with useful tips for keeping their minds healthy and strong.
Hartory became interested in the power of the mind at an early age. As a young student being challenged by his weekly spelling test, he was encouraged by his father to use memory systems to help improve his scores.
From those early experiences came a deep appreciation of how the mind works and a determination to learn more, he said. He later took that interest to Kent State University where he earned degrees in psychology and business administration. Following college he went to work developing educational programming for the PBS network and producing and starring in the long-running series "Weird Science."
His book "Your Ageless Mind" will be available for purchase and signing following the presentation.
