SANTORO, John A. Sr., 92, of Follansbee, WV, passed away on Friday, October 19, 2012, at Trinity West Hospital, Steubenville, OH
John was born on January 18, 1920, in Follansbee, WV. He was the son of the late Domenico and Domenica (Falbo) Santoro.
John served in the United States Army during World War II in the 10th Mountain Division. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Follansbee, American Legion, and VFW. John was retired from Follansbee Steel after 46 years of service as a pot tender. He loved to watch sports and enjoyed playing euchre.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his loving wife, Josephine (Yachini) Santoro in 2000; two sisters, Mary Frio and Lillian Ceglie; and two brothers, Albert and Mike Santoro.
John is survived by five children, Janice (Richard) Goodman of Follansbee, WV, Bonnie (Dan) Truax of Weirton, WV, Karen A. Santoro of Follansbee, WV, John A. Santoro Jr. of Wintersville, OH, and Domenic (Kathy) Santoro, retired U.S. Coast Guard, of Browndeer, WI; seven grandchildren, Richie (Carrie) Santoro, serving in the U.S. Air Force in New Mexico, Michael Goodman of Follansbee, WV, Donna (Terry) Zakrzewski of Clinton, PA, Brian (Sheri) Truax, serving in the U.S. Coast Guard in Cumberland, RI, Amanda Lynn McQuiston of Colliers, WV, Domenica Santoro of Browndeer, WI and Jonathan Santoro, serving in the U.S. Army in Fort Campbell, KY; six great-grandchildren, Tiffany Santoro, Emma Leigh Goodman, Ashlee and Kayla Zakrzewski, and Charlotte and Mason Truax; a sister, May Brady of Follansbee, WV; and several nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, October 22, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at the James Funeral Home, 1245 Main St., Follansbee, where funeral will commence on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 9 a.m.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, 1017 Jefferson St., Follansbee, WV, with Father Pete Giannamore presiding.
Entombment will follow with full military honors by the Ohio Valley Veterans Honor Guard at Highland Hills Memorial Gardens, Follansbee, WV
