To the editor:
I completely disagree with former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland's recent denial in your newspaper of the Obama Administration's war on coal. Strickland's claims ring hollow in this part of the country.
Obama and his allies are hostile to the jobs and affordable energy provided by America's coal industry. Obama has stated that under his energy plan, "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket," as well as warning the industry that expansion, "will bankrupt them."
Obama and EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson are working hard to put the tens of thousands of American families that put food on their tables through their hard work in the coal industry out of a job. They have circumvented the Congress, using executive branch regulations to get their way.
The devastating effects of the president's destructive extremist agenda can be seen plainly in the steady stream of mine closures. All along the Ohio valley, mines and plants are shutting down.
The president has proven time and time again that he would rather placate his extremist environmentalist allies than stand up for working families.
