Josephine Irvine-Groves, at right, chair of the Upper Ohio Valley Opera Guild Scholarship Fund, urges students to apply for the guild scholarship.
The UOVOG $1,000 scholarship is given to one student who must be a music major in his or her sophomore year at a four-year institution, carrying at least 12 credits, and meet related criteria listed on the scholarship application. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to eligible students for expenses to cover tuition, fees, books, supplies and required equipment. The award is for one year only. Previous applicants and recipients are encouraged to reapply each year for the duration of their music studies.
Applicants must meet all of the admissions requirements of the university/college or program of their choice and may be enrolled in the fall or spring semester or quarter as long as they carry at least a 12-credit hour schedule.
First preference will be given to residents of the Upper Ohio Valley, with second preference going to those applicants who can demonstrate a connection to the Upper Ohio Valley. The UOVOG believes in enriching its community through the arts and uses a portion of the proceeds from its events to help fund the scholarship, she said.
For an application or information, contact Irvine-Groves, c/o Upper Ohio Valley Opera Guild, P.O. Box 2158, Wintersville, OH 43953. Applications also are available on line on the guild's website. The deadline for the scholarship submission is Nov. 1.
