Taste of County a welcome treat

October 4, 2012
The Herald-Star

The United Way of Jefferson County's biggest fundraiser is approaching quickly, so we're reminding area residents to plan for a night of fine cuisine and delectable desserts on Tuesday.

It's time once again for the local United Way's Taste of the County event, and the 18th-annual fundraiser will begin at 5 p.m. at St. Florian Hall in Wintersville.

As usual, many restaurants, bakeries and caterers are participating. Here's a list of those scheduled to offer their finest fare for the event: A Touch of Elegance Bakery, Aubrey's, Dolce Pizzelles, Downtown Bakery, Froehlich's Classic Corner, Lancelot's, Malta's Pizza, Mama G's, Manfred's, Piergallini's Catering/St. Florian Hall, Scaffidi's, the Ville Restaurant, Zalenski's Family Eatery and Pub and Baby Boyz.

Tickets remain for the event and cost $30 per person, with $20 being tax-deductible.

The night also will feature an 18-karat gold diamond ring donated by the owners of Discovery Jewelers in Wintersville and other high-ticket items up for grabs in a treasure chest - a new attraction - as well as a gift card tree and mystery gift bags.

All of these fundraisers are a part of the "Dining and Diamonds" Taste of the County event, which most importantly aids the United Way's 18 member agencies, which in turn help area residents in need of clothing, shelter, assistance with monthly utility bills and even prescriptions. It's a great thing that all of the money raised Tuesday evening will stay here locally.

We applaud the local restaurants, bakeries and caterers who are donating their time and talents to Tuesday's event.

There is much preparation that goes into a big event such as this. As United Way campaign Chairman Anthony Mougianis said, he's proud of the local support, that it's "another example of the business people in our community, how willing they are to give back and help."

It's true, the United Way of Jefferson County's Taste of the County has become one of the premiere social events of the fall in our area. Please plan to stop by after work and enjoy the food, fun and atmosphere. You'll be helping the community in so many ways.
