John ‘Jack’ Stringer

STRINGER, John "Jack" of Germano, OH, passed away Sept. 29 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, OH.

He was the son of late Montford and Mary (Hanna) Stringer, born in Hopedale, OH, on Jan. 3, 1931.

He was preceded in death by his two sons, Monte and Richard, and a sister, Donna Wolfe.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn, a sister Evelyn Statler, and four children: Rhonda Tharp of Carrollton, OH, Ron Stringer of Jacksonville, FL., Shelley Hanchin of Annapolis, OH, and Eric Stringer of Pittsburgh, PA. Also surviving him are his nine grandchildren and six great-grand children.

Jack enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, and loved being outdoors. He was a founding member of the Jewett Sportsman's Club. He was also an avid Ohio State University fan and enjoyed all sports.

He retired from Weirton Steel after 33 years, served as Harrison County Commissioner for eight years, and served as German Township Trustee for over 20 years. He was also a longtime member of Masonic Lodge of the Shriner's.

Jack was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church of Germano, Ohio, until it closed and was a current member of the United Methodist Church of the Cross in East Springfield, Oh.

His calling hours will be 2-4 and 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 3rd, at Koch's Funeral Home in Scio and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. His funeral services will be held at the Church of the Cross in East Springfield, Ohio, on Thursday, October 4th, at 1 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Cross, P.O. Box 6, East Springfield, OH 43925.
