WEIRTON - Madonna scored on its first seven offensive possessions and got an eighth touchdown on an interception while waltzing to a 55-0 victory over Bridgeport Saturday night at Jimmy Carey Stadium.

The Blue Dons, ranked 15th in the West Virginia Class A ratings, completely dominated the Bulldogs (1-4) en route to its fourth win of the season in five games.

Madonna piled up 324 yards, 224 of them on the ground while holding Bridgeport to 123 yards of total offense, most of which came in the second half with reserves inserted in the Blue Don lineup.

"It was a pretty good performance for us on both sides of the ball," said Blue Don head coach Doug Taylor. "Our offense scored, our defense scored and our special teams scored so I'm quite pleased. But that's a young football team we played.

"They've got a good coaching staff and they're going to get better and better in the next couple of years."

Madonna juniors, Nick Ossman and Ross Comis, each accounted for three Blue Don touchdowns. Ossman had scoring runs of 23, 11 and 26 yards on the last three times he touched the football.

Comis scored on runs of 23 and 17 yards and connected with another junior, Marcello Biondillo with a 51-yard touchdown pass.

"We couldn't get anything going," said Bridgeport head coach, Rudy Vavrock. "It was a combination of a lot of things, the injury bug and we couldn't tackle tonight. That's a very good team over there. They have a lot of great athletes. They play fast and they just beat us."

Ossman finished with 79 yards on six rushes, Comis ran the ball five times and gained 74 yards and completed five of six passes for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Madonna put the opening kickoff in play at the Bridgeport 49-yard line after Elliott Nero returned the kick 29 yards. It took them just six plays to put the first score on the board as Comis kept the ball going up the middle from 23 yards out. Sophomore Matt Greene split the uprights with the extra point kick.

Greene was a perfect seven for seven as the Blue Dons took a knee after a touchdown late in the game.

Comis scored again about five minutes later when he bounced off a Bridgeport defender, cut to his right and scampered 17 yards to pay dirt.

Then, the Blue Dons made it 21-0 before the first quarter ended with the Comis to Biondillo aerial and Greene kick.

It was more of the same in the second period as the Blue Dons scored on both of their possessions in quick fashion.

Ossman's first touchdown completed an 80-yard, four-play drive as he wove his way through the Bulldog defense with a 23-yard carry. Nero, who gained 67 yards with seven carries, got loose on a 41-yard scamper to highlight the drive.

Ossman came back a little more than five minutes later to score from the Bridgeport 11-yard line. That culminated a three-play 46-yard drive. The touchdown was set up with a 29-yard pass from Comis to Will Bowser.

That made the halftime score 34-0.

Ossman's third score came at the seven minute mark of the third period as he started right from the Bridgeport 26-yard line and reversed his field to the left and found daylight all the way to the end zone.

Garrett Hypes, one of only four seniors on the Madonna squad, got into the scoring act when he fielded a Quar-Jarvious Williams punt at his own 30 and raced down the right sideline 70 yards to the end zone, breaking a couple of tackles along the way.

The Madonna defense got on the board late in the game when sophomore linebacker, Austin Connell, picked off a Bailey McGrath pass at his own 48 and raced 52 yards for the score.

"There was definitely some improvement in our team tonight, but there definitely still is room for more improvement," Taylor concluded. "We travel to Moundsville next week to play Bishop Donahue. They are a well coached, physical team so we're going to have to buckle our chinstraps and get ready for that one."
