GETTING TWO — From left, Indian Creek’s Shane Winland, Zach Connor, Tyler Sharpe and Montel McClelland celebrate a safety late in the first half of Friday’s 54-22 win over Union Local on Homecoming at Kettlewell Stadium. The Redskins are 5-1 and visit Martins Ferry next week.

He even kicked a 20-yard field goal.

"Alex is a great athlete," Indian Creek head coach Andrew Connor related. "We want to get him in space as much as we can and tonight we did a good job of getting him in some situations where he could make plays. Other times, Alex's natural ability just took over."

Union Local head coach Mark Cisar agreed.

"Young is an athlete," Cisar commented. "He was able to break a couple of big plays and turn a small gain into a big one. He just really stands out when you watch Indian Creek play."

Young finished with just four carries but turned them into 132 yards and three touchdowns. He also added 99 passing stripes and a score and returned a kickoff 90 yards for another score.

The win improved Indian Creek to 5-1 on the season. The Redskins will face a stiff test next week travelling to Martins Ferry Friday night.

"Obviously with it being Homecoming there are some distractions," Connor said. "Sometimes we forget that these are high-school aged kids, but they had great focus all week at practice and came out tonight and got after it."

Union Local, meanwhile, fell to 1-5 on the season. The Jets will host Buckeye Local Friday night.

"Turnovers killed us," Cisar said. "We moved the ball at times, but we just turned the ball over way too many times against a very good team. Indian Creek has a real nice team."

Young got the scoring started from 70 yards out. The senior turned a third-and-nine pass play into a rushing score at the 8:01 mark of the first quarter. His two-point run made it 8-0 Creek.

Young was back at it later in the first with a 35-yard scamper. He added the extra point to push the lead to 15-0.

After Tyler Sharpe forced a fumble and teammate Shane Winland covered, Indian Creek tacked on a 20-yard field goal from Young to make it 18-0.

Senior Logan Woods, who finished with 80 yards on the ground, scored from a yard out at the 7:52 mark of the second quarter. Young's PAT made it 25-0.

After Indian Creek recorded a safety for intentional grounding in the end zone, Young found classmate Frank Kamarec for a 7-yard TD play. Young booted the point after and it was 34-0 at the half.

Union Local got on the board on the opening kick of the second half when talented junior Eric Dunfee broke loose for a 72-yard TD. Dunfee's PAT was true and it 34-7.

The Jets covered the surprise onside kick and was back in business. However, sophomore Zach Connor picked off a pass on the very next play to kill the Jets momentum.

Young pushed the lead to 41-7 with a seven yard scamper. Foreign exchange student Fernando Prestes, a Brazilian, booted the point after.

Dunfee returned the ensuing kickoff 76 yards to the Creek 6-yard line, but the Jets would have to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Dunfee making the score 41-10.

The Jets kept battling, after forcing a IC punt, sophomore signal caller Gavin Porter let loose a pretty pass down the sideline to freshman Kaleb McDiffitt for a 71-yard score. The kick failed and it was 41-16.

The ensuing kickoff found Young at his 10-yard line and the speedster made one cut and hit the sideline, made one man miss and cruised to the end zone. Later, senior Rick Hinerman busted in from 2 yards out to cap the Indian Creek scoring.

UL closed the scoring at the 11:15 mark of the fourth quarter with a 23-yard run by Dunfee.

"Any time you can get 58 players into the game it's good for your program," Connor said. "The experience those kids get under the lights in game situations is great. You can not duplicate that experience in practice.

"We want to win the battle on the offensive and defensive lines. That is what we want Creek football to be about and tonight we did a good job of that."
