Evacuation dril

September 29, 2012
The Herald-Star
Homeroom teachers from Brooke High School held up clipboards on which their names were printed in large letters to direct students to them during an evacuation drill held Friday morning by the school and the Brooke County Office of Emergency Management. Students and staff walked about a mile from the school to the Dollar General Market lot to simulate how they would be evacuated in the event of a fire, natural gas leak or other threat to the school. Handicapped students and staff were transported by bus to the site. The students left school property in 15.5 minutes, with the first students arriving at the lot in less than 10 minutes. John Zumpetta, the school’s video production teacher, filmed the drill from atop the Follansbee Fire Department’s ladder truck. Also participating in the drill were the Brooke County Sheriff’s Department, Brooke County Ambulance Service and Wellsburg Fire Department. -Warren Scott
