TORONTO - The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team swept host Toronto 25-13, 25-23, 25-8 Wednesday at Karaffa Middle School.
Rachel Rigaud totaled five kills and two blocks, and Rachel Antonelli six kills and five points for the winners.
Monica Rigaud added five kills and two blocks; Monica Fischer six kills, six points and three blocks; Maddy Gulan 14 kills and six blocks; Robyn Runkel 19 assists and seven points; Jenna Ogden six assists and three points; Tori Knight four kills and three blocks; and Kamy Belardine 19 digs and seven points.
For the Red Knights, Cari Horne finished with eight kills; Taylor Linn eight assists; Shane Sears three digs; and Chelsea Anderson one block and a kill.
"If you look at these scores and compare them to the last time we played CCHS you should do a double take," said Red Knights coach Chelsey Fletcher.
"If you had the privilege to watch tonight's game and had watched the last match against CCHS you will quickly realize why I am able to take this loss with pride.
"These ladies did not just play well but they truly hung with a well-established and sound program. Again, all across the roster we played consistently and mentally strong offensively and defensively."
Toronto takes on Linsly today.
Weir downs Brooke
WEIRTON - The Weir High volleyball team swept visiting Brooke 25-16, 25-20, 25-14 Wednesday at the Carl Hamill Fieldhouse.
Kimberlyn Persina led the winners with 13 kills, seven aces and three digs, while libero Erin hawthorne added 14 digs and four aces.
Samantha McCartney totaled 19 sets; Haley McLaughlin two digs; 23 sets and two aces; Ontasia Petteway two kills and two digs; Selena Wolverton two kills, four aces and six digs; Elizabeth Kush eight kills and five digs; Morgan Goff four digs; Michayla Dobosz four kills; and Lauren Rosnick two kills, four digs and seven aces.
OVAC semifinals set
WELLSBURG - The Univesity High and Wheeling Park boys soccer teams earned their spots in the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference Cup semifinals Saturday at Wheeling Island Stadium with wins in Wednesday's quarterfinals at Brooke High School.
The Hawks, behind a hat trick from Andrew Cranston defeated Parkersburg South, 6-1. The Patriots, also behind a hat trick from Nate Mauck, blanked St. Clairsville, 4-0.
University and Wheeling Park will meet each other at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Bears selling tickets
NEW MANCHESTER - Tickets for the Oak Glen at Weir football game at 7 p.m. Friday are available in the Oak Glen High School main office through 1 p.m. Friday.
Cost is $5 for adults and $4 for students. All tickets are $6 at the gate.
