Oak Glen, Indian Creek play to a draw

WINTERSVILLE - The Indian Creek boys soccer team played Oak Glen to a 1-1 tie on Senior Night, Monday at Kettlewell Memorial Stadium.

The Redskins received their goal from Russell Ratcliffe off a Max Lewis assist. Goalie Matt Barker had eight saves.

Travis Bolner scored for the Golden Bears goal unassisted. Nick Fryer turned away nine shots in net.

Bears fall to Beaver Local

CALCUTTA - The Beaver Local volleyball team defeated visiting Oak Glen 22-25, 26-24, 25-23, 25-20 Monday.

"We started off strong then we had a let up," Beaver Local coach Sarah Lowe said. "Oak Glen is a great team. We knew they would battle back."

The loss is only Oak Glen's second of the year as they now stand at 13-2.

"Our passing was off and our serving was inconsistent," Oak Glen coach Ethel Riser said. "And we played tough competition. But, when you don't pass well, you can't get your offense going and you get tired of playing defense all night.

"Passing and serving, that was the difference."

The Beavers were led in points by Ali Buchheit who finished with 18 to go along with five aces, six digs, 18 assists, four kills and four blocks.

For Oak Glen, Lacee Porter led with 10 points and added seven kills and one block. Sydney Kell paced the Bears with eight assists, seven points, one kill and three blocks. Vanessa Hissam totaled with 10 kills, nine points and one block.

Jessica Stivason added 25 digs, six kills and five blocks and Morgan Poling finished with three points, six kills, five blocks and eight digs.

Brooke edges St. C

ST. CLAIRSVILLE - The Brooke girls soccer team defeated St. Clairsville 1-0 Monday.

Dynah Sayre scored on a Haley Dalton assist for the Bruins. Marena Cline had two soves in the shut out.

Briannna Sowers saved five shots for the Red Devils.

Brooke (6-5-1) hosts Linsly Wednesday.

Crusaders win tri-match

WEIRTON - Steubenville Catholic Central's Austin Meronoff earned medalist honors Monday with a 37 at Williams Country Club as the Crusaders (170) defeated Buckeye Local (198) and Weir High (210).

Rounding out the scoring for Central was Mike Manfresca's 43, Josh Merriman's 44 and Nick Ivkovich's 46.

For the Panthers, Clint Henry shot 44, Ricky Sempkowski 48, Kyle Sutphin 49 and Bo Walker 57.

Tyler Warrick led the Red Riders with a 49. Alex Creel shot 51, Zach Midcap 53 and Austin-Paul Orrechio 57.

Creek whips Bellaire

BELLAIRE - The Indian Creek volleyball team earned an easy 25-13, 25-6, 25-13 victory over Bellaire on Monday.

Ali Collaros totaled seven digs and three aces. Whitney Martin had five kills, two blocks and four digs, and Mallorie Sullivan seven digs.

Brey Mays finished with three aces, five kills, and seven digs; Martina Marko one kill and one dig; Bre Berryman eight kills and three blocks; Kiarra Kamarec four kills and four blocks; and Jessica Furda 20 assists, five aces, two kills and eight digs.

Big Red grabs a win

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville volleyball team grabbed its second win of the season 25-12, 21-25, 25-11, 25-7 over visiting John Marshall Monday in the Crimson Center.

Abby Taylor led the way with two points, seven kills, three blocks, seven digs and 14 assists. Taylor Young delivered 13 points, nine kills, seven digs and nine assists; and Mytia Barker 17 points, three kills, eight digs and two assists.

Annie Nehrbas added five points, six kills and four blocks; Carmie Biasi six points and 20 digs; Brittany Bodo 15 points, six kills and six digs. Chaya Thompson three kills and Taylor Crites two kills.

Big Red visits Weir High Wednesday.

Wildcats down Red Knights

TORONTO - The Edison golf team defeated host Toronto, 191-226, Monday at Dyer Country Club.

Adam Ryan and Ben Boyd each shot 47 for the Wildcats, while Dylan Jones had a 48 and Jimmy Marsh a 49.

The Red Knights' John-Mike Romey earned medalist honors with his 45. Ben Hlivko shot 50, Grant Scott 63 and Nick Ighnat 68.

Dons sweep tri-match

TORONTO - The Madonna volleyball team moved to 10-0 after defeating Conotton Valley 25-12, 25-14 and Toronto 20-25, 25-16, 25-17 Monday at Karaffa Middle School. The Red Knights earned their first win of the season with a 25-20, 25-13 count over Conotton Valley.

For the Blue Dons, Katie Kramer finished with four aces, three digs and a kill; Nicolette Sellitti eight kills; Dylan Fenske 19 assists and four aces; Maddie Burchill seven aces, six digs and two kills; Emily Pietranton one dig and one kill; Monica Bragg two aces, three blocks and a kill; and Amanda Paul 13 digs.

For the Red Knights, Cari Horne delivered five kills and four assists; Katie Spadafora 10 kills and three blocks; Taylor Linn five assists; Miranda Robinson three aces and three assists; and Lisa Scalley three kills and a block.

"I truly think they are becoming more comfortable in their own skin and finding the confidence the coaching staff has in them," said Toronto coach Chelsey Fletcher.

"I could not be any more proud of these young ladies. Every single player contributed tonight. We set the tone in each game and made Conotton Valley and Madonna rise to our level. We finished the job with Conotton Valley and kept Madonna on their toes.

"Two young women who don't get a lot of stats need to be commended - Shane Sears and Mykenna Risler - have kept us in the game and saved many sets from their sheer drive."

Big Red rolls over JM

STEUBENVILLE - The Big Red boys soccer team claimed a 6-1 win over John Marshall Monday at Harding Stadium.

Dominic DiCarlo had a hat trick for Big Red with Stefano Lanni, Jorge Dominguez and Jason Criss each adding one goal. Brandon Llewellyn had a pair of assists with Dominguez and Tanner West lake each chipping in one. John Paul Duff had seven saves.

The Monarchs goal came from Austin Litman and goalie Kyle Patrick had 20 saves.

Big Red (6-2-1) host Steubenville Catholic Central Thursday.

Wildcats sweep Red Devils

RICHMOND - The Edison volleyball team defeated St. Clairsville 25-18, 26-24, 25-14 Monday.

For the Wildcats Kylie Smith had four points and four digs; Katie Davidson six pointsand three kills; Hannah Johns seven points, two aces, and two digs; Katelyn Pollock eight points, two aces, 13 kills, two blocks, and two digs; Caitlin Brenstuhl 23 assists, seven points, two aces, and three kills; Alexis Gill three kills; Cassady Jarvis eight points, five kills, and four blocks; and Kalee Neal three points.

For the Red Devils Brigee Mick had five digs and seven kills; Gabbie Espen eight points, two aces, two digs, and 17 assists; Summer Gallentine six points; and Alexis St. Clair five digs, seven kills, and two blocks.

Edison (9-3) hosts Carrollton at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Panthers beat Patriots

RAYLAND - The Buckeye Local volleyball team beat Wheeling park 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 25-19 Monday.

The Panthers received contributions from Becca Rector with two aces, three digs, nine kills and 12 assists; Kayla Fillipovich with four aces and six kills; Kierstyn Czuchran with five kills; Kaylee DeCesare with nine digs Lex Fedorko with five assists and two digs; Morgan Staten with four digs, seven kills and two assists; Moe Fedorko with two kills; and Preslie Renforth with five digs.

Crusaders stop Tigers

STEUBENVILLE - The Steubenville Catholic Central volleyball team stopped Shadyside 25-4, 25-8, 25-5 Monday.

Rachel Antonelli had three kills for the Crusaders, who moved to 8-3. Tori Knight had two aces, two points and three kills; Rachel Rigaud four kills and three assists; and Jenna Ogden had four aces, 13 points, five assists and nine sets.

Robyn Runkle had eight aces, 16 points, 12 assists and 12 sets; Monica Rigaud had seven kills; Maddy Gulan had five kills; Monica Fischer had four kills; Logan Colabella had three aces, three points, three kills and two assists; Taylor Bednar had three spikes; and Kamy Belardine had four aces, eight points and seven digs.

JCCS nips Portersville

STEUBENVILLE - The Jefferson County Christian boys soccer team pulled out a 3-2 victory over Portersville Christian School Monday at Franciscan University of Steubenville in SouthWestern Christian Athletic Conference action.

Chris McGurn scored twice for the Royals within five minutes of each other on a penalty kick and an unassisted goal. He assisted on the first goal on a Wes Seabright header off a corner kick.

JCCS is 6-3 and visits Champion Christian Friday and Oak Glen Saturday.

Royals sweep Warriors

WINTERSVILLE - The Jefferson County Christian volleyball team raised its record to 9-1 after its 25-8, 25-15, 25-12 victory over Portersville Christian at the Ryan Activity Center in SouthWestern Christian Athletic Conference action.

Theresa Recznik led the way with 20 points. Meadow Jackson added 12 and Alyssa Beadle seven.

The Royals visit Faith Christian Thursday, host Calvary Baptist Friday and travel to Toronto Saturday.
