The Herald-Star

In remembrance of 9/11, the Wintersville Woman's Club, in partnership with the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts Pack and Troop 415 held a flag retirement ceremony on Sept. 9 at the Wintersville Volunteer Fire Department parking lot. Participating in the ceremony were Cub Scouts Kyle Casto and Elijah Connell and Boy Scouts Nick Donohue, Greg McFadden, Harrison Trikones and Jake Casto.

Led by Scout Leader Jim Jackson, the day's ceremony was dedicated to the memory of Sandy Knight, former cub master for 20-plus years, and also to the 9/11 tragedy. Leaders Jim Trikonis and Ed Hill also assisted with the ceremony, explaining that such a ceremony is the way to properly dispose of American flags. The ceremony included an explanation of what the stripes represent. Other Scout leaders on hand were Karen Hill, Connie Duffy, Elaine Donohue, Sarah Reynard and Michelle Casto.
