MCMULLEN, JR., James Park, 85, of Wellsburg, WV, passed away on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at Valley Hospice Care in Steubenville, OH, surrounded by his family.
He was born on January 13, 1927, in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Dr. James P. Sr. and Josephine (Porter) McMullen.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Jane (McMullen) Irmscher and his grandson, Robert Park Baron.
He is a graduate of Wellsburg High School, class of 1945 and in 1951 he received his B.A. from Bethany College. In 1954, he graduated from West Virginia University College of Law.
He served his country in the Army Air Force Corps during World War II.
Park practiced law from 1954-2002 in association with Charles D. Bell. He was elected to two terms as Brooke County Prosecutor from 1960-1968 and filled the unexpired term for Herman Rogerson from 1969-1972, and was Assistant Prosecutor for several years with David Cross. He was Director of Municipal Mutual Insurance Company and Chairman of the Board for 20 years. He was the former Director of Banner Fiber Board and Wellsburg Banking and Trust. He was the former Co-Owner of Highland Springs Golf Club in Wellsburg, WV. Park was a member of the Brooke County Bar Association, the West Virginia State Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
He was Presbyterian by faith.
Among his many civic duties he was a member of the Wellsburg Masonic Lodge No. 2 A.F.&A.M. and a Past Master of the Lodge, the Wellsburg Elks Lodge No. 1553, and the Wellsburg Loyal Order of Moose No. 1564.
On June 30, 1956, he married his wife of 56 years, Phoebe E. (Yarling) McMullen at home. He is also survived by five children, Jane (Roland) Stoner of Wellsburg, WV, Catherine (David Lippold) McMullen of Bethesda, MD, Cynthia J. McMullen of Washington, DC, James P. McMullen, III, of Wellsburg, WV and David Scott McMullen (Greg P. Matwey) of Washington, DC; three grandchildren, John Thomas Baron Jr., Caroline Porter Lippold, and Charles Park Lippold; his brother-in-law, Dr. George W. Irmscher of Fort Wayne, IN; and a niece and two nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 8, 2012 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Mullenbach Funeral Home 669 Main St., Follansbee, WV.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Wellsburg, WV, with Rev. Joseph Hrach officiating.
Interment will be held privately in Franklin Cemetery in Wellsburg, WV with Masonic rites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Robert Park Baron Memorial Scholarship in Care of Wesbanco Bank or the Brooke County Library.
