The unofficial end of summer doesn't mean the end of great outdoor community events, and this weekend is no exception.
The Brooke County Fair opens Friday afternoon, with a wide variety of games, food, crafts and other activities scheduled through Sunday.
The fair, which takes place each year at Brooke Hills Park, has something to entertain just about everyone, with food eating contests, mud bogs, carnival rides, musical performances and much more. And, of course, a county fair wouldn't be complete without a queen pageant.
Organizers work to keep things fresh, introducing new features each year. Among this year's highlights are an appearance by Black Diamond Wrestling on Friday; the Hill Hoppers Flying Club and its radio-controlled airplanes and helicopters on Saturday and Sunday; military re-enactors of the 8th Pennsylvania Regiment; and the returning Twins Day contests on Sunday.
We thank those area residents who take time each year to plan the fair and make it such a huge success for our area.
We also would like to thank the individuals and businesses who provide financial support in order to keep the fair going. This year, Chesapeake Energy is among the fair's major sponsors.
The Brooke County Fair continues to grow and provide a great weekend of activities for our area residents.
We encourage residents of the Tri-State Area to come out and experience the fun for themselves.
