MORGANTOWN - The Morgantown girls soccer team earned a 3-0 win over visiting Brooke High Tuesday on Pony Lewis Field.
The Mohigans' Maggie Shively lit up the scoreboard with two goals. Junior Michaela Hinerman led the way for Brooke with three shots, followed by senior Kirsten Minger and junior Dynah Sayer, who each contributed single shots.
Bruins head coach Lee Weppler felt his players had many great moments, but just couldn't get the job done.
"We played well for periods of the game, possessed the ball well and built up out of the back nicely," he said. "We had a couple of opportunities that we just couldn't capitalize on."
Despite what the score sheet says, Weppler and the Bruins took home important lessons.
"We never give up, we play to the final whistle," he said.
"We'll take that into the next game, get ready for Weir High and go out and just execute the game plan."
Brooke goalkeeper Marena Cline finished with seven saves and Morgantown goalkeeper Erica Yohn totaled five.
The Bruins visit the new Jimmy Carey Stadium at Weir High Thursday.
